Our mission
Our planet is undergoing a period of development of dramatic proportions and changes. The economic activities have been multiplied. The United Nations have predicted that these will increase by a factor of 5 or 10 in the following half century. Since the beginning of the 20th century industrial activities have increased by more than 50 times, while 80% of this development took place after 1950. These numbers herald dramatic changes to come in investments, such as in housing, transport, agriculture, industry and mineral resources.
The increasing demands for minerals influence the development and utilization of modern methods for exploration and exploitation. The dynamic changes in the market conditions and the available technology generate the need for training engineers who are able to face successfully new challenges. The courses offered in the School of Mineral Resources Engineering aim to deliver a balanced mix of fundamental skills and knowledge of specialized fields to ensure that the graduates have the skills and flexibility required for success in the very competitive global market.
The coursework in the School of Mineral Resources Engineering focuses in particular on industrial minerals and energy resources, which play an important role in the development of the Greek economy of Greece, thus covering the present and future needs of the country.
